#ABOUT SOSPOSA
ABOUT SOSPOSA
SOSPOSA was founded by Prof James Roelofse, one of the leading sedation practitioners in the world in training and writing sedation training programmes. In his capacity as the academic and previous head of sedation training at University College London, the University of the Western Cape, and Co Program Director of the sedation programme at University of the Free State, he will oversee the academic standard of the publications on the Society’s website. Prof Roelofse is also the Life Honorary President of SOSPOSA and an executive member of the International Committee on the Advancement of procedural sedation and analgesia (ICAPS)
SOSPOSA became the 13th member of the International Federation of Dental Anaesthesiology Societies (IFDAS) some years ago, an organization actively involved in pain and anxiety control. This means that we have an international network that could only be of benefit for SOSPOSA members and by extension you the patient.
SOSPOSA is privileged to be a Special Interest Group, SIG, of the South African Society of Anaesthesiologists (SASA). We are very honoured and grateful to SASA.
SASA was instrumental in approving publishing the guidelines on Procedural Sedation and Analgesia for adults and children in 2010, 2020, 2021. The response to those guidelines was very positive. SASA acknowledged their key role in looking after the safety of sedation practice in this country.

#DOES IT MATTER?
WHY SHOULD MY SEDATION PRACTITIONER BELONG TO SOSPOSA?
Who is SOSPOSA and why should a patient prefer to use a sedation practitioner for sedation that is an active member of SOSPOSA.
The Society Of Sedation Practitioners of South Africa, also known as SOSPOSA, is a group of trained, registered and regularly appraised doctors. They have proven to be competent and safe sedation practitioners, not only because of their initial training and certification but their constant continued professional education, attendance of sedation congresses and colleague interactive training programs.
